Independence Day - 14th August
Independence Day, celebrated every year on 14 August, is a significant national holiday in Pakistan. This year marks 77 years since Pakistan achieved independence and emerged as a sovereign nation in 1947, following the end of British colonial rule. The creation of Pakistan was the culmination of the Pakistan Movement, which sought to establish an independent Muslim state in the north-western regions of South Asia through partition.
The movement was spearheaded by the All-India Muslim League under the visionary leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The landmark event was facilitated by the Indian Independence Act of 1947, which granted independence to the Dominion of Pakistan, comprising what is now known as West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
Notably, this momentous occasion coincides with Ramadan 27 in the Islamic calendar, which is considered particularly sacred as it falls on the eve of Laylat al-Qadr. For Muslims, this night holds immense spiritual significance, making the day of independence even more meaningful.
As we reflect on this pivotal moment in our history, we celebrate the resilience and aspirations of our nation, honoring the sacrifices made for our freedom.
