Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway Update

APRIL, 2021 UPDATE
The federal government deferred approval of Rs192 billion worth of Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway project due to proposed changes in its financing model, which now seeks Rs76 billion from the budget compared to the original plan of constructing the road with private sector funding.

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP), which has a mandate to approve public sector projects, referred back the scheme to the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Authority for vetting the budget demand of Rs 76 billion.

JANUARY, 2024 UPDATE
The National Highway Authority (NHA) has ended its partnership with M/s Techno-CMC (TECMC) Private Limited for the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) project, the largest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) endeavor in Pakistan, valued at Rs307 billion. This decision comes after the Concessionaire failed to secure financial closure within the stipulated timeframe.

The termination of this agreement is expected to cause further delays in the completion of this significant infrastructure project, according to official sources.

AUGUST, 2024 UPDATE
New motorway from Hyderabad to Sukkur (UPDATE)
The M-6 Motorway, also known as the Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway, is an important infrastructure project currently under construction in Pakistan. Once completed, it will create a vital connection between Sukkur and Hyderabad. Spanning 306 kilometers, the M-6 will fill the last significant gap in the North-South connectivity route, linking Karachi to Peshawar. This motorway will greatly enhance travel and trade across the region. The M6, is set to be a significant roadway stretching 306 kilometers. It will consist of six lanes, with three lanes designated for each direction, allowing for a smooth flow of traffic. The motorway will have a design speed of 120 km/h, making travel efficient and quick. Additionally, it will connect 15 major interchanges and 89 bridges, further enhancing connectivity and accessibility along the route.
